The Kakapo's habitat

Kakapo In The Bush

Habitat:

Natural History Museum

Kakapos originally inhabited a variety of forested environments, but due to habitat destruction and introduced predators, they are now restricted to predator-free offshore islands where conservation efforts are focused. Their current habitat includes:
Forested Areas: Kakapos prefer dense, temperate forests, especially those with rimu, beech, and podocarp trees.
Scrublands & Coastal Areas: In some cases, they also adapt to scrublands and coastal regions with diverse plant life.
Offshore Islands: Today, kakapos are found on protected islands such as Codfish Island (Whenua Hou), Anchor Island, and Little Barrier Island (Hauturu-o-Toi), where they are monitored and managed by conservation programs.
